What separates a premium whiteboard from a standard one, beyond price
It's rarely the writing surface itself
Standard and premium ceramic steel whiteboards typically share the same scratch-resistant, magnetic writing surface. A premium specification doesn’t usually mean a technically superior surface; it means that surface has been put into a form, frame and finish that costs more to produce and fit into a room.
Performance: what a premium specification still has to deliver
Whatever the finish, a premium whiteboard still has to perform: ceramic steel resistant to scratching and staining, a magnetic surface that holds documents evenly, and clean, reliable erasing over years of daily use. None of that changes with price; a premium board that didn’t perform to this standard wouldn’t be worth specifying regardless of how it looked.
Design: where the actual difference sits
The design side is where a premium specification is actually earned: a considered shape, a solid oak frame instead of a plain edge, a SatinTones colour instead of standard white, or refined detailing around panel joins. Any one of these, or a combination, can move a whiteboard from standard to premium without touching the writing surface underneath.
Why price follows design, not performance
Oak framing, custom colour finishing and precise detailing all add manufacturing steps that a plain white panel doesn’t need, which is where the price difference actually comes from. Specifying a premium whiteboard is really a decision about how much design work is built into the board, not about buying a better writing surface.
