What to document after installation for future maintenance or expansion
The final approved layout drawing
This is the single most useful document to keep. It shows exact panel dimensions, positions and any custom cutouts, which is exactly what a supplier needs to manufacture a matching replacement or extension panel later, without having to re-survey the wall from scratch.
The surface finish and colour reference
Ceramic steel finishes and colours are specified by reference code, and matching one years later without that reference means starting the colour-matching process from scratch, with no guarantee of an exact match. Keeping the original spec sheet on file avoids this entirely.
Warranty documentation and the manufacturer's contact details
Knowing who to contact for a warranty claim, and having the original purchase or installation date on record, saves time if an issue comes up. This is easy to lose track of once the original project team has moved on to other work, particularly if the project ran through a fit-out partner rather than a direct order.
A simple shared folder is enough
None of this needs a formal system: a shared folder with the drawing, spec sheet, warranty details and a few photos is enough to save real time later. The value comes from having it filed somewhere findable, not from how it’s organised.
Photos of the finished installation from multiple angles
Beyond the drawing itself, a few clear photos of the finished wall help confirm exactly how panels were mounted and aligned, which is useful context for anyone maintaining or extending the wall who wasn’t involved in the original project and has only the paperwork to go on.
