What changes in daily cleaning once a wall becomes the whiteboard
It becomes something to wipe, not just dust
A standard wall gets dusted occasionally and otherwise left alone. A dry erase wall needs an actual wipe-down with the right cloth on a regular basis, which is a routine cleaning staff may not have previously included for that section of wall, since it simply wasn’t relevant before.
Cleaning products need to change too
General-purpose wall or glass cleaners aren’t necessarily suited to a ceramic steel surface, and using the wrong product can leave streaks or, over time, affect how well the surface erases. Cleaning staff need to know this is now a different type of surface, not just another section of wall to be treated the same as everything else.
Someone needs to own restocking supplies
Markers run dry, erasers wear out and cleaning spray runs low. None of this was a consideration for a plain wall, so someone in the office needs to take on keeping these supplies stocked near the dry erase wall, or it quietly stops being usable even though the panels themselves are perfectly fine.
A brief handover to facilities staff prevents most of this
Most of these issues come from cleaning staff simply not knowing a wall has changed function, not from any lack of care. A short handover explaining the new routine, the right products and when not to clean solves nearly all of it before it becomes a problem.
Timing of cleaning matters more than it used to
