The wall at the front of a classroom already has a job: it holds the teaching whiteboard everyone faces. The back wall rarely has one, and tends to default to storage cupboards, a noticeboard, or nothing at all. Turning that space into something students actually use, and doing it consistently across every classroom rather than as a one-off in a single room, is a different brief to fitting a single teaching board.

Rather than a single fixed-size panel, the knowledge wall is built from multiple Sharp Wall panels connected and mounted horizontally, so its length can follow the actual back wall of each classroom rather than being limited to one standard panel size. That modularity is what let the same specification reach across classrooms of different lengths without ever needing a custom one-off panel.

Not every classroom has the same run of straight wall to work with, so in some rooms the whiteboard wall continues around a corner rather than stopping where the first wall ends. That only works if the panel layout is planned against the specific room rather than ordered as a single standard size and fitted wherever it happens to reach, which is part of why the same solution needed a room-by-room layout decision even though the finish stayed identical throughout the school.

That consistency matters more in a school than in a single office meeting room, since students and staff move between classrooms daily and would notice if each one looked different.

Positioned where students already sit facing it for part of the day, the back-wall panel works as shared reference space: spelling lists, number lines, colour and shape charts, and topic work a class is building up over a week, rather than material that gets wiped after a single lesson like the front-of-room teaching board. That is a different job from the main whiteboard, which is why the school specified a separate wall for it rather than adding more space to the front. In the younger classrooms, the wall carries a visibly denser mix of visual aids than an older group’s room would need, which the panel’s plain white surface is large enough to support without the wall feeling cluttered.

Because the wall is built for the classroom’s actual shape and used for ongoing class content rather than lesson-by-lesson teaching, the space behind students’ desks stops being dead wall and becomes a working part of the room. Rolling the same specification out to every classroom also gave the school one consistent look and one supplier relationship to manage, rather than a different fit-out decision made room by room.

Where a school wants the same solution repeated across many classrooms rather than one, deciding the panel finish and mounting approach once, centrally, is what keeps the rollout consistent. It is also worth treating the back wall as its own brief rather than an extension of the front-of-room board, since the two surfaces get used differently.
