A project with phases stretching over months benefits from a timeline that stays visible and physically present in the room, rather than a status that only exists when someone opens a file. Visitors and stakeholders passing through the space also pick up the current status passively, without needing a dedicated update meeting.

A visual map of a process or team structure, built up with movable pieces as new starters learn it, works better as a physical reference they can walk up to and study than a slide they were shown once. New team members also tend to remember material better after physically interacting with a board than after passively viewing the same content on a screen.

Few teams need all five at once. A practical starting point is to identify which single method is currently causing the most friction on a screen, whether that’s a kanban board that’s hard to scan or a workshop format that loses momentum switching between slides, and size a magnetic wall around solving that specific problem first.
