Sustainability at Chameleon

At Chameleon, we believe sustainability is not just a responsibility but an opportunity to create high-quality and innovative products. Our products are designed for longevity and contribute to a circular economy. By utilizing sustainable materials, smart manufacturing techniques, and reuse concepts, we ensure our whiteboards and acoustic solutions are not only functional and stylish but also contribute to a better future.

Our sustainability policy is based on the following six pillars:

01. Design for maximum lifespan
02. Contribution to a circular economy
03.
Footprint reduction
04. Ethical entrepreneurship
05. The crown on our work: our sustainability certifications
06. Continuous innovation

01. Design for maximum lifespan

Sustainable materials: quality that lasts a lifetime
Sustainability starts with material choice. Our whiteboards are made of enamelled steel, an extremely durable and scratch-resistant material known for its unparalleled lifespan. This material is fully recyclable and maintains its optimal writing quality, eliminating the need for replacement. This means less waste and a reduced environmental impact.

For our acoustic solutions, we use PET felt, a material composed of 50% recycled PET bottles. By giving plastic waste a new life as high-quality acoustic panels, we actively contribute to reducing plastic pollution and conserving natural resources.

Modular and easily relocatable
Our products are designed with a circular approach, meaning they are easy to move and (re)assemble. Thanks to our smart magnetic mounting system, our walls and whiteboards can be quickly installed and relocated without damage. This offers flexibility for changing environments, such as offices and schools, where spaces are regularly reconfigured.

Additionally, our modular designs reduce waste, as components can be individually replaced or adjusted without discarding the entire product. This extends the lifespan and minimizes environmental impact.

02. Contribution to a circular economy

Choice of recycled and/or bio-based raw materials and packaging
We prioritize raw materials made from recycled content. Additionally, bio-based alternatives are employed to lessen the demand on natural resources.

Second life for Chameleon products
To further reduce waste, we have established the Chameleon Outlet. Here, showroom models, slightly damaged products, and returns are given a second chance. Instead of being discarded, these products are carefully inspected and offered at a reduced price. This ensures materials remain in circulation longer and unnecessary waste is prevented. This is not only a sustainable choice but also provides an affordable solution for customers seeking high-quality whiteboards and acoustic panels with minor imperfections but significant impact.

Design for recycling
Chameleon boards are constructed using materials that can be separated at the end of their lifespan and are 98% recyclable. Only the bio-based lacquer applied to the board edges and the water-based adhesive used are non-recyclable. However, the use of this lacquer and adhesive ensures no harmful substances are released during recycling. This directly contributes to a circular economy.

03. Footprint reduction

Locally produced
Chameleon products are manufactured in the Netherlands. This not only ensures compliance with strict European environmental standards but also allows us to limit transport distances and significantly reduce our CO₂ emissions. Local production enables us to respond effectively to specific customer needs, offer flexible solutions, and collaborate closely with you. We can provide short delivery times, low transport costs, and a smaller ecological footprint. Should any issues arise, we can act swiftly to rectify them.

Collaboration with Dutch and European suppliers
Smit Visual works closely with local partners, ensuring an efficient supply chain. This minimizes our ecological footprint and promotes responsible business practices.

Sustainable packaging and logistics
At Smit Visual, we strive to minimize packaging by delivering our products in bulk whenever possible. This not only reduces waste but also lowers costs for both us and the customer. Additionally, it contributes to more efficient logistics, resulting in shorter delivery times and a smaller ecological footprint.

CO₂ emission reduction Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gases
We have set a goal to achieve a 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions from Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gases by the end of 2025 compared to the baseline year 2019. Progress is closely monitored, and we are proud to share that we have already achieved this target. This does not mean we stop here; through an energy management system, we closely monitor consumption and define actions to further reduce emissions.

4. Ethical entrepreneurship

Ethical business practices and good employment
Sustainability is not only about materials and production processes but also about how we conduct our business. At Chameleon, we believe in ethical business practices and good employment. By taking good care of our employees, we build a sustainable organization where people work with pleasure and dedication on the products of tomorrow. We have therefore established a Code of Conduct outlining our core values.

Ethical practices among suppliers
To ensure our suppliers also adhere to ethical business practices, we have developed a Supplier Code of Conduct, which our suppliers are required to sign unless they have their own Code of Conduct that reflects our values. Any violations of the Code of Conduct are addressed accordingly.

5. The crown on our work: sustainability certifications

FSC® certified
All Chameleon whiteboards are FSC® certified (license code: FSC-C137061). This means the wood used comes from responsibly managed forests. By choosing FSC® certified products, we contribute to the preservation of forests and global biodiversity.

Ecovadis Gold Certificate
Smit Visual, the producer of Chameleon, has achieved the Ecovadis Gold Certificate. This certificate recognizes our commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. We meet stringent standards in environmental, labor, ethical, and sustainable procurement practices. This means our products are not only of high quality but also contribute to a more sustainable world.

ISO 14001 certification
Smit Visual is certified according to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management systems. This certification confirms our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact and continuously improving sustainable business processes. This helps not only us but also our customers achieve their sustainability goals.

6. Continuous innovation

A sustainable future: continuous innovation
For us, sustainability is not an endpoint but a continuous process. We continue to innovate and constantly seek new ways to make our products even more environmentally friendly. We do this by investing in circular product development, sustainable packaging, and energy-efficient production methods.

Together with architects, designers, and companies, we are building a world where design and sustainability go hand in hand. By choosing Chameleon, you choose products that not only make an impact today but also contribute to a more sustainable future.
