A universal way of working, across rooms that are not uniform

The bank’s brief was built around a global, universal way of working for employees, with collaboration, creativity and the Agile philosophy as the key ingredients. That kind of standard needs a whiteboard or scrum wall in effectively every meeting room, but the rooms themselves were not uniform: colour schemes, sizes and layouts varied from room to room across the new building.

Why one standard panel would not have worked everywhere

A single fixed whiteboard specification, sized and finished the same way in every room, would have fought against some of those interiors rather than fitting into them, especially in rooms with a strong existing colour scheme. Meeting the Agile brief consistently meant deciding room by room rather than defaulting to one answer for the whole building.

Whiteboard walls sized and placed for each specific room

Rooms finished in navy, deep green or burgundy each received a whiteboard wall sized to that room’s own table layout and wall space, rather than a panel chosen from a fixed size chart and fitted wherever it happened to reach. In breakout and lounge-style areas, a rounded panel on a natural wood-toned wall suited the more informal setting better than a large rectangular meeting-room wall would have.

Scaling a tailored approach past 2,000 square metres

Deciding the panel individually per room is straightforward for a handful of spaces; doing it consistently across more than 2,000 m² of whiteboard and scrum walls in one head office needs the same specification discipline applied room after room, not a one-off design exercise for a single showcase space.

Why a scrum wall is a different brief to a standard meeting-room board

A scrum wall is used differently to a whiteboard in an ordinary meeting room: sprint boards, kanban columns and sticky-note clusters tend to stay up across several sessions rather than being written and erased within a single meeting. That pattern of use asks for a writing surface large enough to hold a full board layout at once, and durable enough that repeated notes and re-writes over a sprint do not leave the surface looking worn by the time the next one starts.

The result: one Agile standard, no two rooms identical

Every meeting room and breakout area in the building ended up with a genuine scrum or whiteboard wall supporting the same Agile way of working, while none of them look like a copy-pasted version of the room next door. The bank got the consistency its working method needed without flattening the interior variation the building was designed with.

What this shows for a large, varied office fit-out

On a project where rooms differ significantly from one another, treating the whiteboard wall as a per-room decision, made against each room’s actual colour and layout, scales better than trying to standardise on one panel and finish for the whole building. The consistency that matters is in the capability every room gets, not in every room looking the same.
