Ceramic steel typically has a matte to satin finish, which keeps glare down under office and classroom lighting. Glass is glossy by nature, and depending on the angle of overhead lighting or nearby windows, it can create a reflective glare that makes the surface harder to read from certain seats in a room. Material construction and certification
Chameleon’s ceramic steel panels use a 10 mm water-resistant MDF core, faced with a ceramic enamel layer fired onto the steel substrate; that enamel layer is Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze. Chameleon’s glass panels use 4 mm toughened safety glass with a 0.4 mm galvanised backing sheet, for a total panel depth of around 5 mm. Despite the slimmer glass profile, glass is the heavier material of the two, which is part of why ceramic steel panels are generally easier to handle and mount. Both product ranges are installed using the same TÜV-certified magnetic mounting system.
