Resolving door and window obstructions before production starts
Door swing needs the full arc measured, not just the frame
A panel positioned too close to a door frame can still get struck if the door’s full swing arc reaches further than expected. Measuring the actual swing, not just the doorway width, avoids a panel getting damaged during everyday use within the first few weeks of installation.
Windows can sometimes be incorporated, not just avoided
Depending on the window’s position and the room’s ceiling height, panels can sometimes run above or below it, reclaiming usable surface that a simpler layout would have written off entirely. This is worth exploring before assuming the window is a hard boundary that can’t be worked around.
Uneven sections either side should be sized deliberately
An obstruction rarely sits exactly in the middle of a wall, which means panels either side are naturally different sizes. Sizing them so both sides feel intentionally proportioned, rather than simply filling whatever space is left, makes a visible difference to how finished the result looks.
A good supplier flags this during the survey, not after
A thorough site survey should identify every door, window and fixture on the wall and propose a resolved layout before quoting, rather than leaving it to be discovered once a drawing is already being finalised. This is worth confirming with any supplier before proceeding.
Resolve this at drawing stage, not on installation day
Once panels are manufactured to a specific layout, adjusting for an obstruction that wasn’t properly accounted for means remaking a panel rather than a simple on-site fix. Resolving every obstruction on the drawing, well before manufacturing starts, avoids this entirely.
