Hoe een groot whiteboard zichtbaarheid, overzicht en betrokkenheid in het klaslokaal vergroot
Gelijke toegang, ongeacht waar je zit
In een klas van dertig leerlingen zit niet iedereen even dicht bij het bord. Leerlingen achterin zien tekst op een klein formaat minder scherp dan leerlingen voorin. Op een groot whiteboard worden letters, cijfers en schema’s op een breder vlak uitgetekend en blijven ze voor iedereen in de ruimte even goed leesbaar, ongeacht de plek in de klas.
Overzicht: de les als geheel zichtbaar
Overzicht betekent dat leerlingen kunnen zien hoe onderdelen van een les met elkaar samenhangen: hoe het begin leidt naar het midden en het midden naar de conclusie. Op een klein bord is dat lastig, omdat er nooit genoeg ruimte is om de hele les in één keer zichtbaar te houden. Op een groot whiteboard kan een docent de lesstructuur bij het begin neerzetten en gedurende de les aanvullen zonder die structuur te verliezen.
Dat overzicht geeft houvast: leerlingen weten waar ze zijn in de les, wat er nog komt en hoe nieuwe stof aansluit op wat al behandeld is.
Betrokkenheid als gevolg van gedeelde ruimte
Wanneer bijdragen van leerlingen zichtbaar naast die van de docent staan, wordt de wand het gedeelde werkoppervlak van de hele klas in plaats van alleen het domein van de docent. Dat werkt met name ondersteunend voor leerlingen die baat hebben bij visuele structuur, omdat de opbouw van de les letterlijk op de wand blijft staan in plaats van te verdwijnen.
